Failure to Rescue audit

Background Failure to rescue (FTR) of patients has been directly linked to patient mortality, and it has not yet been studied in the acute care surgery population. This audit will collect data on FTR on surgical emergency units (SEUs) in order to identify the factors associated with high risk of failure to rescue. This data will contribute to designing a future trial of an effective intervention aimed at decreasing FTR incidents and increasing patient safety.

Study Details The collaborative will collect data from SEUs throughout the region using a standardised electronic REDCap form. The collected information will include patient demographics, prior health states, diagnosis and patterns of pre-crisis MEWS scoring. This will allow us to analyse the factors which predict acute deterioration requiring emergency rescue procedures.
